Twerk, shake that booty, pump, grind, smile, work out, and have a blast! I am getting pretty nervous and excited that I am going to get certified in Zumba in two weeks. I drive to Manchester, TN all by myself and then learn what it is all about. So far, I have taken Zumba and Dance Blast classes for over one year now. I have taught two songs in front of a class, one choreographed by another teacher, Caley and one that I choreographed myself. They both went really well. I enjoy it and think that I might have the knack for it. While the hip hop, Dance Blast, is where my true passion is, people have told me that getting trained in Zumba is a good foundation for teaching that type of class. So, I have decided that I will just put myself out there and see where this leads me.
I think these dance type of classes require a lot of work on the front end. You have to learn and choreograph a whole set of songs that can fill up a 60 minute class. At first, like most new things, it seemed almost impossible. But, I now have 2 songs that I have choreographed and a couple more rolling around in my head.
I think that doing something like this is going to be so good for me. The unknown, away from my kids, something that is 100% only about me. I haven't really done anything like this since I have had children, but for sure since I started staying home with Scarlett and Owen in May 2012. This has all brought me a lot of fulfillment. At some point along the way, like most moms, I just stopped taking care of me or doing anything for me. I went too far in that direction of extreme. I am on the journey of finding a balance, giving to my family and giving to myself. This Zumba training is giving to myself.
