I have always loved playing the piano. It is a great way to be expressive and let all your care go away for a few precious moments. Some of my fondest memories are of my grandmother and I sitting at the piano bench together, her teaching me a new song while she played the duet. I took lessons for around 2-3 years when I was 7 years old, but have always played on and off. I know I want my children to have access to a piano. If they like it then great, if not, that's fine too. With trying to find things I enjoy, getting a piano at our home has moved up on my priority list.
So, the space issue. We live in a 2400 square foot older home. One would think that we would have plenty of room for this piano. Well, we do, but it is upstairs. I am scared to call someone about the price of having a piano taken up our flight of stairs, $$$. Also, it just "seems" that a piano should be downstairs. I have walked around downstairs measuring different spaces that it could go. China cabinet thrown away for a piano is causing me a bit of pause. I have researched different "adult" size pianos and the spinet seems to have the smallest profile measuring around 56-57 inches wide.
The brown issue. We will not bring another piece of dark brown wood furniture into our house. ZERO. Our entire house is dark hardwood floors. Also, my husband brought in a full load of bachelor type dark brown furniture to our marriage. So, I think I have found the solution, PAINT THE PIANO.

Doesn't this just look amazing!
However, this is what I am thinking. A fresh white with a dramatic fabric on the bench. Now, this one would brighten up a room.
So, I have looked at a few ways to paint it. There is sanding, priming, and rolling on 3 coats of paint. That is just not going to happen for me, that is way too much work. I saw lightly sanding and then spray painting, which seemed ok. But, I have been wanting to make some diy chalk paint for a while now. This would be the perfect opportunity to try it out. Apparently, the texture of chalk paint alleviates the need to sand. Also, chalk paint creates that rustic, old world look for a lot less work. So excited. I just hope we can make it work.
