So, we are moving. We are so excited. It is only 7 blocks from where we live, but is pretty much my dream home. We got a good price on it, but in order to make it just what we want, I am going to have to do some smart and impactful decorating. This is going to be a journey, but one that I am super excited about!
Scarlett and Owen's rooms are the first order of business. I want them to feel special in their new space, so that they, too, are excited about the move.. well, at least Owen. This is something that I have been researching for a while, because even if we did not move, I wanted to give them each their "own" rooms at our current house.
With Scarlett, I have been loving the rasberry and orange color combination for quite some time. It is finite without being too princessy. I found this design below and it has really stuck with me. I think it is my inspiration room.
So, I look at this and think, how can I get the same look at an affordable budget. Scarlett's room is going to have to be painted. As it stands, her room is a bright lavender that just does not work for me. I love this soft cream color in the room and thought about doing an accent wall behind the bed in the rasberry color on the ceiling in the picture. I already have her bedroom set, its an old Pier One set that I had in law school. It is brown and I would like to paint the entire set this cream color. That would be a lot of work, but I think that it will transform the existing brown set. Maybe I need to invest in one of those paint sprayers. People with larger projects swear by them and I think I will be doing quite a bit of painting in this new house. This Spray Critter is the best rated. It is $50 and you only need a small, portable air compressor to operate., which costs around $30 I think it would pay for itself over time.
Above, is the chandelier from Ikea that I want to hang. It is called the Maskros and is only $50, even with shipping, this is going to be a good deal.
The fabric on the bed is $50 per yard, and that is just not going to fit the budget. I am researching alternatives, and here is what I have some up with.
Each of these is about $12 per yard. Now, that's more like it:) the question is whether I want to create an entire bed covering out of one of these fabrics like the inspiration room. I think the better option will be to get a practical quilt from Target... maybe a cream onesie the bed cover. Then, I will make a small blanket for the end of the bed and some pillows out of one of the above fabrics. I already have a floral rasberry and orange fabric that will be the accent pillow for the bed.
Then we go to the draperies. The fabric they used in my inspiration room is $200 per yard as seen here. However, I think I found a great alternative for $12 a yard as seen here and in the second photo below.
The sheep skin rug.. I found some on Craigslist for $100 and my parents have one that I might try. Oh, and the pouf... havn't decided on that yet. Also, I might add a monogram decal above the bed.
So here is the budget I am going to try to stick by. I will not include painting because that was going to be done regardless:)
Quilt for Bed $30
Fabric for pillows and blanket on bed: $40
Fabric for curtains $30
Monogram Decal $20
Sheep Skin Rug $80
Total: $200
Here we GOOOOOOO....
